Climate Change in the Northeast

Keith Bergman, The Climate Project

You’ve seen predictions for India, Africa and the American Southwest, but what can we expect here? The Union of Concerned Scientists brought together 50 scientists from leading research institutes to determine what we can expect to experience right here in the Northeast under two different emissions scenarios – “business as usual” and “steep emissions reductions.” Keith Bergman will delve into the implications of our actions today on the weather tomorrow. You might even learn where not to invest in Massachusetts!

Low Carbon Diet

Andrea Belford and Jen Boudrie, Green Marlborough

MCAN's (Massachusetts Climate Action Network) Low Carbon Living (LoCaL) Program is a friendly way to reduce the cost of home energy and the impacts of global warming. Groups of five to eight households in a community use teamwork and behavior change to “lose 5,000 pounds of carbon in 30 days.” Members of a team with eight households will lose at least 40,000 pounds of carbon in a month and slash each home’s energy bills, while developing stronger community bonds.
Learn about the program and how you might join others in your neighborhood to decrease household emissions together.

Jen Boudrie founded Green Marlborough in 2007 for residents and is co-chair of the municipal Energy and Environmental Taskforce in the city of Marlborough with a population of 37,000.  She started her career as a college teacher and became a businesswoman in workforce training.  She designed and directed workforce training programs at 20+ companies in manufacturing, healthcare, bio-tech, and high technology in Greater Boston with the support of a highly skilled teaching staff.  She has consulted on curriculum, workforce educator training, and presented at 25+ conferences. Jen launched a new business, Green Workforce Training, in 2009.

Andrea Belford leads Low Carbon Diet groups for Marlborough households. She coordinates group meetings for residents to help them lower their carbon footprint. Andrea has been a member of Green Marlborough for one year and was very active in the first annual Marlborough Earth Day Fair and 2008 Marlborough Stream Team. Andrea was recognized for her EcoEasy work at Staples Corporation and is involved in decisions for selecting and marketing their eco-friendly office products.
